💡How Can We Motivate People?
That was what I learned from the 127th regular meeting.
It was also the first time I served as an evaluator.
As an evaluator, you listen closely to a prepared speech, then deliver an impromptu speech giving feedback. To do this well, you need to understand:
The structure of the speech
The speaker’s key message
Use of vocal variety, gestures, and body language
And to apply active listening
After listening, you give feedback: highlighting strengths, suggesting improvements, and motivating the speaker for their next step.
Through this process, I realized something powerful:Evaluation is more than feedback—it’s a way to motivate people.
And this applies beyond Toastmasters.
In business, motivating others is often difficult.
But with evaluation skills, we learn how to:
Deliver a clear message without sounding offensive
Put ourselves in the other person’s shoes
Inspire action with respect and encouragement
This meeting reminded me that evaluation isn’t just for public speaking—it’s a leadership skill for life.
Our club meets on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday of each month.
If you’d like to grow your public speaking, leadership, and motivation skills, join us as a guest!
