In Toastmasters, Robert’s Rules of Order are used worldwide to conduct business sessions in a fair, transparent, and democratic manner. Following these rules allows all members the opportunity to speak, ask questions, and participate equally in the decision-making process.

In today’s business session at Shin-Osaka Leaders, we addressed three important motions:

  1. Approval of the Financial Report for the 2024–2025 program year

  2. Approval of the Budget Proposal for the upcoming 2025–2026 program year

  3. Revision of the club membership fee structure in line with the implementation of the Self-Pay system starting in October 2025

Each motion was presented with its background and rationale, followed by time for questions and discussion. Voting was then conducted according to Robert’s Rules, with members expressing their decision by raising their hand and saying “Aye” or “Nay.” All three motions were approved, marking an important step in preparing our club for the next program year and ensuring the smooth continuation of our activities.

As President, I was unable to attend on-site this month due to a very busy work schedule and joined the meeting online partway through. I had asked our Vice President Education, Mariko, to open the meeting, and I was truly grateful for her support—especially as she is a former club president and someone I can fully rely on.

Many of our members work full-time, so there are times when we need to cover for each other. I believe it is this culture of mutual support that enables us to continue our Toastmasters journey for many years.

Maho Hummel

President 2025-2026
