Judges Training
We conducted an in-house Judges Training on January 17. What is Jusges Tranining?
Well, as part of Toastmasters education program, there are speech contests and members serve as judges in different levels, from clubs, areas, divisions, and districtc. So, it is important that members are familiar with the judging criteria and be ready to serve in the role. On top of that, knowing the judging criteria is one good way to review how we make speeches.
Judging speeches starts with identifying the speakers' purpose for delivering that particular speech. Then, we analize how effectively the speech was opened. Was the opening engaging? We also determine how effective were the materials used in the speech and how they were organized to support that purpose. We rate how importatnt was the value the speaker brought to the audience and how impressive the speech concluded. We also pay attention to how the materials were presented vocally and physially as well as how descriptive the words were.
After Hideo's presenteation covering the above mentioned points, we listened to two test speeches by MIt and Maiko and tried judging them using the actual "Judge's Guide and Ballot." The session concluded with a discussion session to exchange opinions among attendees about the speeches and their judge results.
This was a rare opportunity and participants including a guest learned how to judge speeches and how to make a great speech.
