Special event with Nishinomiya TGIF Toastmasters Club members
We held a special event, led by our Vice President Education, Hideo, who doubles as Vice President Membership at the Nishinomiya TGIF Toastmasters Club, focused on the evaluator role. We do not normally hold a joint event, but this is exceptional because Nishinomiya TGIF is the sponsor club of us. The five founders of Shin-Osaka Leaders were members of Nishinomiya TGIF when they started working on launching the club. In the very first several months of our history, when we were still holding "demonstration meetings" to invite guests to join us as members, we welcomed some members of Nishinomiya TGIF to help us run the meetings by taking some meeting roles.
After we became a full-fledged club, the two clubs have held their own meetings and have never organized a joint event until Hideo assumed an officer role in both clubs. We both share a similar demographics, relatively young professionals working seriously to improve their skills. That leads both clubs to share the same challenges. One of them is that the ratio of inexperienced members is relatively high because a good portion of our members have to leave the clubs because their job and family business begin to take up a lot of their time. Inevitably, those inexperienced members are expected to take such challenging roles as the evaluator. Hence, this event. We organized this themed event to help less experienced members try delivering an evaluation speech while providing an important opportunity for more experienced members to review what they've been doing.
The event started with Hideo's presentatioin of what he pay attention to when serving as an evaluator. We, then, watched a video of a speech and participants took turn delivering their own evaluation speeches. That was followed by the discussion session where we exchange opinion about the speech and feedback to each other.
Though it was a bit of a pity that only Yuki and Kohei were able to make it this time from Shin-Osaka Leaders, we had a great time learning and re-learning the art of effective evaluation. Hopefully, we have more members joining int future event of this series.
