Moments of Truth Discussion
This meeting was a very unique one. We devoted most of our meeting time to the " Moments of Truth" discussion, which is a program provided by Toastmasters International for clubs to review their performances as a place to help their members learn effectively, efficiently, and in a fun way to become a better speaker, leader, and communicator.
The Moments of Truth discussion helps club members to gauge how well the club is performing in moments of truth, when guests make their decision of joining the club or not or when members make their decision of renewing their membership or not. There are a lot of these moments: what kind of first impression the club gives to guests, how friendly members are to guests and new members, how easy the onboarding process is, and how helpful members are in guiding members in learning how to perform different tasks. The list is really long because there are so many aspects to think about. Yet, the bottom line is simple. are guests and members happy with their experience with the club?
This year, we conducted an online survey based on the questions provided by Toastmasters International, which revealed that most members want to improve our meeting quality and build membership. During the meeting, we were divided into four breakout groups, three at the venue and one online, to discuss these two major topics. We had a serious and fun discussion and came up with a lot of creative ideas including holding workshops on different topics and creating a system to provide feedback to functionary role-takers like Timer, Ah-Counter, and Grammarian.
We look forward to examining these ideas and deciding which ones to incorporate.
