Another member made her debut as Toastmaster of the Day! The first speaker in the Prepared Speech session delivered her speech on how to build a Winning CV using presentation software. During the presentation, something went wrong and the slide she was trying to show us turned all white. We decided to welcome our second speaker while the first speaker tried to fix the problem.
That made the Prepared Speech Session five minutes longer, but the members who spoke in the subsequent sessions did a good job of slightly trimming their sessions that led the meeting back on schedule by the time we celebrated the Best Table Topics, Best Evaluator, and Best Speaker winners. This showed how flexible and supportive we are. The other two speakers were President and Immediate Past President. The President worked on an Ice Breaker speech, a self-introduction to the club, as she started working on a new "Path" or a course in the Toastmasters' education program called "Pathways." The former President worked on a project called "Understanding Vocal Variety." We enjoyed four Table Topics (impromptu) speeches and four evaluation speeches, all of which were specific and supportive, as usual. What really set this meeting apart was the fact that we had a business session, where we had the financial report from the previous term and discussed the budget for this program year. The Club Executive Committee had expected the budget would be approved with no problem, but it turned out that members were more curious about the details than expected and we ran out of time. It was a pity that the budget was not approved smoothly but it was a blessing in a sense because it demonstrated that we decide things through discussions by our members. We will wait until our 13th regular meeting on August 31 to discuss and vote on the budget because we do not have time at the next meeting on the 17th.
