We have a long way to go. This meeting demonstrated the challenges we face as a group. On the surface, it went smoothly with good speeches, fun topics for Table Topics, the impromptu speech session, insightful evaluations, and in-depth functionary reports, all the sessions starting and ending with minimal delays. Yet, on a much deeper level, we had a lot to improve on. The two major challenges we faced were: 1. A member with a role could not show up and nobody noticed that she was not in until the meeting started. 2. The Timer had some technical glitches and disappeared from the screen.
Some experienced members pitched in and helped the meeting go smoothly. But that was at the cost of their performance as evaluators. Because they were busy taking care of other tasks than their own, they were not fully focused on the speeches they were supposed to evaluate, resulting in evaluation speeches with poorer quality. It is highly expected that everyone takes the necessary steps to prevent glitches from happening and that more members be ready to pitch in when glitches do happen. That is how we can take our meetings to the next level where everyone can benefit more from. I know we can be a lot better than this. Hideo, Immediate Past President
