A club officer newly elected
What set this meeting apart from the rest is the fact that we held an officer election. Sadly, one of the club officers, Vice President Membership, had to decide to step down because he found out that he will be super busy with work and it seemed impossible to continue serving as an officer. Thank you for your dedication and contributions thus far!!
The newly-elected Vice President Membership, Chiemi, has been serving as the assistant to the former Vice President Membership and we have full confidence in her skill and leadership.
Hilarious, Educational, and Captivating
These are the words that describe the three prepared speeches delivered today. The first speaker, Keiji, speaking via Zoom, beautifully incorporated the feedback he received for his previous speech and delivered a hilarious speech centered on his experience about giving and receiving tips. The second speaker, Chiemi, talked at the venue about phishing emails and how to avoid being trapped. Also at the venue, the third speaker, Mariko, delivered a story using a lot of storytelling techniques, depicting different characters skillfully. Those were different in theme, style, and purpose, and yet they were all engaging.
The greatest place to screw up
One of the characteristics of Shin-Osaka Leaders is that we place great importance on feedback. Though we follow the Toastmasters-wide standard of 2- to 3-minute evaluation speeches, we tend to set aside longer time than what other Toastmasters clubs secure. This meeting was no exception. We planned a 15-minute session for functionary reports and General Evaluation. The General Evaluator was too enthusiastic and spent two more minutes, covering everything from the evaluation speeches to functionary reports to the way Toastmaster of the Day performed her tasks. It was when he talked about the importance of us all communicating well in the lead up to the meeting that he got too enthusiastic that he ended up going overtime. This was not good in itself, but it also represented what Toastmasters is, "the greatest place to screw up." It is something former World Champion of Public Speaking Darren LaCroix says when he talks about Toastmasters. Toastmasters is where we learn by doing, sometimes making mistakes.
If you are looking for a secure environment where you can try things yourself and learn from your experience, Shin-Osaka Leaders is definitely a great option. Come visit us by clicking here and contacting us!
