What does an Ah-Counter do?
In Toastmasters club meetings, there are several roles other than speakers. Let us show you what an "Ah-Counter" does in the meeting.
The Ah-Counter is responsible for paying attention to any unnecessary utterances made by everyone who spoke during the course of a meeting and reporting their findings toward the end of the meeting. We do this because we won't be effective if we have unnecessary utterances and it is hard for us to notice our fillers ourselves. We need someone to pay attention to our fillers and point them out. Thus, Ah-Counters.
When we serve as Ah-Counter, we take notes. The photo at the top shows the notes the Ah-Counter took at the meeting today. Obviously, this is not the only way we take our Ah-Counter notes. Each member uses their own way of taking notes and tries to provide as effective and useful report to help members notice what kind of fillers and reduce them. Some members use Excel file to take notes and show the file on screen.
Similarly, we have a role called Grammarian, who pays attention to the usage of words and phrases. A Grammarian tries to not only point out grammatical mistakes and errors but also find and share beautifully used words and phrases that enhanced the speeches.
If you are intersted in seeing our Ah-Counters and Grammarians in action, contact us via the form on the "Contact Us" page and see them yourself.
