Officer Elections
This meeting was special in that we held officer elections. Any Toastmasters club is run by its own members, and at the center of the club management are the club officers. There are seven club officers, namely, President, Vice President Education (VPE), Vice President Membership (VPM), Vice President Public Relations (VPPR), Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant at Arms. We held elections to choose members to serve in those roles and as part of it, we listened to 2-minutes speeches by the candidates about what they want to achieve as club officers over the next twelve months. As a result, we elected six officers except for the Treasurer, whom we need to elect later.
Because the officer elections took a substantial amount of time, we only had one prepared speech, which was longer than usual. To be exact, the speech itself was a 5- to 7-minute speech, yet it was followed by a Question and Answer session, for a total of 20 minutes. The speaker, C.J. Marks, made a proposal about revamping the Toastmasters speech contest and we had a lively Q&A session.
