Focus on evaluation speeches
This meeting was focused on evaluation speeches because giving evaluation is one of the four principles of Toastmasters education. (They are Experiential learning, Self-paced program, Peer feedback, and Mentoring.) In addition, District 76, to which Shin-Osaka Leaders belongs, is holding a series of Evaluation Contests. We held this theme-oriented meeting as we prepare our members to participate in the Evaluation Contests and provide opportunities for newer members to practice giving evaluation speeches.
In the Prepared Speech session, one of our experienced members, Mariko, delivered an 18- to 22-minute speech detailing what she has learned over the years on evaluation speeches. It was a very informative presentation and we all were busy taking notes. After listening to two other prepared speeches, two newer members, Maya and Luting, delivered their evaluation speeches for the third prepared speech. After that, all participants had a discussion about their evaluation speeches in small groups of four. Listening to and discussing multiple evaluation speeches based on the same prepared speech was a rare opportunity to think hard about what great evaluation speeches are like. Great job, everyone!
One last thing that delighted us at the end of the meeting was that a guest declared her intention to join the club and we are welcoming her as an official active member of our club during the induction ceremony at the 42nd regular meeting on September 6.
