Welcome, our fifth new member this term!
We officially welcomed our fifth new member this term with an induction ceremony. An induction ceremony is where new members pledge their commitment to self-development and contribution to the club, and the existing club members pledge support for the new members. It is also when the club-assigned mentor for the new member is announced. The club-assigned mentor is to help the new member tranisition into their new journey as smoothly as possible. We do have a lot of things to learn, about how to perform our duties as functionary role takers, how to request speeches and/or sign up for roles, how to deliver speeches, and many more. We all help each other to make our club experience as good as it can be. After all, Toastmasters is based on mutual support.
What delighted some venue attendees was the fact we had more venue attendees than usual. As a place for all of us to practice public speaking, standing in front of real people means much. Yet, with the COVID-19 situation, it has been difficult for some members to show up at the venue. WIth some new members eager to join the meetings in person, we now have more members attending in persom, making our club an even better place to practice public speaking.
One thing that is yet regretful is that the number of attendees is still somewhat smaller than ideal. At this particular meeting, we had five members serving in two different roles, which in itself is great in that it shows their dedication. Still, it will have some negative impact, if this continues. We are working to welcome a handful of new members to make the club even more vibrant, exciting, and better surted to provide a better learning environment for all.
