Another Path Completion
Toastmasters' education program is called Pathways, which has multiple paths. Each path consists of at least 14 projects spanning five levels. As introduced in this article, Mariko completed one of her paths with the last project called "Reflect on Your Path." This time, another member, Hideo completed his path of "Leadership Development."
Hideo started on this path way back in December 2018. He took a lot of time because he was working on different projects from what we refer to as Legacy Program, the previous education program based on paper manuals. After the grace period for the old program ended in June 2020, he started spending more time on this Leadership Development path while working on a couple of other paths he'd purchased.
In August 2020, he spoke under the title "Half-baked Speeches" on the "Evaluation and Feedback" project in Level 1 to motivate members of the Senri Toastmasters Club to take the stage more often. Back then, he was serving as an Area Director, who supports several clubs, and Senri was one of the clubs he was involved with. The members were somewhat reluctant to make speeches because they wanted to prepare thoroughly for their speeches, and the Vice President of Education was having a tough time filling the speaking slots. He talked about the benefit of taking the stage often even if the speeches are "half-baked."
In Level 2, he delivered a speech "Assume Less. Ask More." for the "Understanding your Leadership Style" project where he shared the challenges he faces while serving as President at the Nishinomiya TGIF Toastmasters Club.
For the required project in Level 3, "Planning and Implementing," he discussed his experience working on a small project. He worked on four elective projects while we are only required to work on two. He chose the "Connect with Storytelling," Connect with your Audience," "Inspire your Audience," and "Effective Body Language" projects. There are about ten elective projects to choose from and you can try everything if you want.
For the required project in Level 4, "Leading Your Team," he formed a team of six Toastmasters from different clubs to organize a workshop called "Katte-ni COT" or "Unsolicited Club Officer Training" focused on how to energize clubs, bring the meeting quality up, and attract new members.
To complete his Level 5, he worked on the required "Manage Successful Events" project, where he worked with a team of nine Toastmasters from different clubs to organize an official Club Officer Training with around 90 participants.
To sum up, he delivered his last speech "Leadership Developed" on this path with the "Reflect on your Path" project. He said he really enjoyed working through the "Leadership Development" path.
