"Moments of Truth" discussion
This meeting was special in that we only had one prepared speech, one evaluation speech, and no Table Topics (impromptu) speeches. Instead, members were engaged in a "Moments of Truth" discussion.
"Moments of Truth discussion?" you might be wondering. It is a very important opportunity for a Toastmasters club where members review and discuss their own performance as a club in six different categories. As you might know, a "moment of truth" refers to a moment when a person makes a certain decision. One example is when a customer decides whether they want to purchase a product or not. Similarly, a prospective member of a Toastmasters club makes a decision whether they want to join the club or look somewhere else. Another example is a moment a member makes a decision whether they want to renew their membership or not. For a club to stay healthy, it needs to make a good impression on its guests and provide a meaningful learning environment for members. So, a "Moments of Truth" discussion in a Toastmasters club is an opportunity for members to discuss how well they fare in six different categories.
At this meeting, members had serious and heated discussions about how well members are prepared for their meeting roles, how can members be better prepared, how actively members are involved in events outside the club, and what benefits they can enjoy by doing so. Overall, members of the club are well-prepared, but we came up with some ideas to make sure that everyone is better prepared for each role. In Toastmasters, there is a lot to learn in a club but there are some things that can never be learned within a club environment. In that respect, Shin-Osaka Leaders members are not that actively involved in events outside the club. This is in a sense natural because the vast majority are relatively young as Toastmasters, the vast majority having been with the organization for less than two years. They can be more actively involved in outside-the-club events going forward.
