We are here to learn public speaking.
We had three prepared speeches at this meeting. The first speaker, Swan, talked about his public speaking experience as a debater at college to introduce himself. He says he's not good at making small talk. He'd rather speak in public to express his ideas and thoughts. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his public speaking experience, but he has just restarted it as a Toastmaster at Shin-Osaka Leaders.
The second speaker, Junko, talked about how we can accept being an introvert and overcome the common misconception that extroverts are better than introverts. She has accepted that she's an introvert and overcome her shyness to deliver speeches at Shin-Osaka Leaders.
The third speaker, Hideo, discussed how we can learn public speaking more effectively based on the lessons he's learned from one of his Toastmasters mentors, KJ, the founder of the Nishinomiya TGIF Toastmasters Club, who inspired him to launch Shin-Osaka Leaders. KJ's teaching includes reading the material thoroughly and learning from other members' good practices by taking notes.
In the evaluation session, individual speech evaluators provided constructive feedback to speakers. The first evaluator, Maya, suggested that Swan add what motivated him to pursue speaking so that the audience members could learn more about who he is. The second evaluator, Maho, suggested using pauses more effectively after asking the audience a question and adding some stories that show what kind of introvert Junko is. The third evaluator, Mariko, suggested including what impact KJ had on HIdeo to change the way he goes about learning in Toastmasters. After the evaluation speeches, we heard reports from the Ah-Counter, Tonette, who focused on distracting utterances, and the Grammarian, Lijani, who paid attention to language use. The General Evaluator, Mit, provided a thorough evaluation of everything that took place during the meeting, including what he learned from the Table Topics speakers about how to go about making impromptu speeches.
We are all here to learn public speaking. And we do it well.
