Solid debuts!
This meeting saw some solid debuts. First, Poh Luan made her debut as a speech evaluator in Shin-Osaka Leaders. Though she was a Toastmaster in Malaysia, where she is from, it was her first time here in SOL. She started by complimenting the speaker, Tonette, on a good choice of title. Then she pointed out that her speech was easy to understand and was engaging. Next, she suggested giving eye contact equally to online and in-person audiences, which is a big challenge for any presenter and takes continuous training for an extended period. She concluded her evaluation speech with an encouraging comment.
Second, Nao, who had just joined us at the previous meeting debuted as the Ah-Counter in SOL. She, too, was a Toastmaster when she was in the US. She meticulously paid attention to the fillers speakers uttered and presented a detailed report. Last but not least, Robert, who missed the chance to incorporate his innovative idea to perform his Ah-Counter duties at the previous meeting because of his sudden and inevitable absence, took the role of the Timer for the very first time at this meeting. He showed how he had paid attention to what the Timer did in the past meetings and performed his role brilliantly.
Serious and caring
One thing that we are proud of is that new members are generally well-prepared for their roles on their first attempt. This shows how each member is serious about their responsibility and how caring the Vice President Education and their club-assigned mentors are.
