Regular Meeting 79, January 9, 2024 (Hybrid)

Solid speeches

We enjoyed three solid prepared speeches at this meeting. Especially worthy of mentioning was the one Izz delivered. She talked about how she evolved after joining Shin-Osaka Leaders. At first, she was sort of intimidated by the members' fluency. She said it looked like a distant world. Now, she feels a lot more comfortable being here after realizing each person has their color, strength, weakness, and role. She tactfully used a metaphor of the colors red, green, and blue to represent different personality traits and skill sets.

The second speaker, Nao, delivered her first speech in Shin-Osaka Leaders, introducing herself to the club. Having been a Toastmaster while in the U.S., she structured her speech in a well-organized manner. She spoke with poise using a forceful voice, a cheerful smile, and earnest enthusiasm.

Together with the third speaker, Lijani, they set a cheerful yet earnest tone for the meeting,

delivering their strong messages with confidence. All the participants enjoyed listening to their speeches and the rest of the meeting.

The Best Ah-lover Award

Maya, who took the role of the Ah-Counter, showed us how we can go about communicating something that could sound negative. In her role, she needed to report how many times each member used fillers or crutch words. She creatively coined the phrase "Ah-lover" to indicate that a particular member used a lot of them. By making her Ah-Counter report sound like an award presentation, she successfully conveyed seemingly negative information without making it too serious. Kudos to Maya!
