Regular Meeting 98, September 3, 2024 (Hybrid)

Fully packed

This meeting was fully packed with an induction ceremony to welcome a new member and four prepared speeches. It is always great to welcome new members and this was no exception. Our newest addition, Yongsheng read out "A Toastmaster's Promise" to acknowledge his responsibilities as a member as well as the benefits Toastmasters brings to him.

Why Giving Back Matters

The fourth prepared speaker, Lijani, delivered a short speech (2- to 3-minute speech) to talk about a project she will be working on for some time. A successful entrepreneur hailing from a poor neighborhood in the Philipines, she has been involved in many projects to give back to society. This is another big project she will be working on. Though she did not reveal much detail about it, she shared with us a glimpse of this humongous project involving a lot of people and a lot of money.

In Toastmasters, every prepared speech is supposed to be based on a project in our education program called "Pathways." The project Lijani is working on is "Manage Projects Successfully." Usually, members work on small-scale projects like "revising the club website" or "organizing a special event for Toastmasters members in the nearby area." In that respect, Lijani's project is unique and significant, making us all proud.

She is showing us a perfect example of putting what we learn in Toastmasters into practice in the real world. We look forward to listening to another speech of hers after the completion of this project of giving back to the school she graduated from.
