The Art of Eliminating Your Fillers This Special Event focused on knowing our habits in using fillers and reducing them. When we speak, we use fillers while thinking of what to say next. In conversation, those fillers make our speech sound more natural. Yet, in public speaking, they distract the attention of the audience.
That's why one of our members, let's call her CT here, came up with the idea for this event. CT has been with us for a year and three months. She has served as Ah-Counter several times and has noticed fillers could deal a serious blow to the effectiveness of our speeches. She talked with one of the most experienced in the club, Toshimi, about the possibility of hosting an event focused on reducing our fillers together, and they started working hard to make this event a reality.
It was really worth their time. This turned out to be a very effective workshop that helped members minimize their fillers. One example was Kimiaki, who had this habit of saying "sorry" when he had to think of what to say next. After listening to CT's presentation, he didn't say a single "sorry" in his impromptu speech! It was so amazing and we talked about it after the event. CT's demonstration of how the same three seconds mean totally different things to speakers and to audience members was brilliant and convincing. All of us in attendance were grateful for the insight and are looking forward to listening to members with fewer fillers going forward!
